Off The Shelf vs.Custom Build
For most people an 'off the shelf' PC will do fine, but for some it is simply not an option.
Off the shelf PC's from manufacturers such as Dell, Compaq and HP tend to have all the bells and whistles, stickers bragging about all the cores and gigahertz of this, and megabytes of that and it all sounds fantastic but...
Did you know that most off the shelf PC's contain inferior components? Motherboards tend to be made to a very low quality and offer few options should you ever want to upgrade, RAM is usually from no-name, generic manufacturers and is generally the slowest memory available, while power supplies are often of a poor grade and prone to failure just outside of warranty!
This is especially true with Dell desktops, but what makes Dell more of a problem is that many of the components are not interchangeable with non-Dell hardware, meaning very costly repairs once the warranty is up!
